OEM Ready Program

The OEM Ready program is a quality assurance program that increases customers' satisfaction with partner products. OEMs that pre-install only OEM Ready applications will be taking their first steps towards a much improved Windows computing experience. All ISVs who wish to have their applications preinstalled by OEMs need to complete OEM Ready testing or have their software Certified for Windows Vista.

The OEM testing requirements are a subset of the Certified for Windows Vista requirements that have been identified as key to OEMs. Available testing tools, guidance and a streamlined process make it easier for partners to advance through these requirements in a manner that provides customers the best out of box experience with their software.

Program benefits include the following:
  • Improved customer satisfaction: The OEM Ready program helps to ensure that applications address the criteria customers use to judge quality: compatibility, reliability, and well-behaved installs and un-installs.
  • Fewer calls to technical support: The OEM Ready tests have been designed to identify and address the most common issues that plague applications today.
  • Direct connection to Microsoft: Guidance, testing tools, a streamlined process, and free technical support make it easier for partners to meet and surpass the software quality tests.
  • Be ready to capitalize on customer demand: Rapid customer adoption of Windows will create a tremendous market opportunity for applications that are ready for pre-install and optimized for the Windows platform.

Testing for a Windows Logo

To ensure a premium user experience, Microsoft requires specific testing procedures for the Windows Logo Program. Each certification level has its own functional requirements and testing protocol. To learn about the basics of testing and submitting your product for a Windows Vista logo, explore the appropriate section below:

Certified for Windows Vista

The Certified for Windows Vista logo promises an application that has been independently tested for reliability, security, and other high-performance traits by a third-party testing authority. To help you prepare for the final test process, Microsoft has test cases available for you to evaluate your application internally.
  1. Winqual Account Creation
Visit the Winqual site to establish the account you will use to submit your product for certification. As part of this account creation, you will need to create a VeriSign Organizational Certificate. This certificate ensures that Winqual receives the correct information about your product. To make your alternate application Certified for Windows Vista, follow these steps:
  1. Create a new Winqual submission.
  2. Contact the testing authority that certified your original application and let them know that this new product is a subset of that application.

  4. Once this new application passes, and the testing authority verifies its eligibility with Microsoft, you will receive the same Certified for Windows Vista logo for this product and all the attending benefits.
If you have more questions about how to certify multiple applications with the same base code, contact swlogo@microsoft.com.

Windows Vista Compatibility Center

Microsoft recently launched the Windows Vista Compatibility Center(WVCC) beta. The WVCC is designed to help consumers, small businesses and sales-channel partners easily identify the products and devices that are compatible with Windows Vista. The site currently focuses only on products available in the U.S. market. During this beta period, we are asking for feedback from our ISV partners to ensure that the right products are included, and that the information we are providing is accurate and up-to-date.
  1. If your products are widely available in the U.S. market, they may already appear in the Windows Vista Compatibility Center. You can check for your products at www.windows.com/compatibility.
  2. If a product is missing or is showing inaccurate information, please use the built-in site feedback forms to let us know.
  3. Enter "InnovateOn" in the Service Code field so that we know the feedback is coming from an ISV partner and we can prioritize accordingly.
This is an exciting opportunity to showcase all of your products that work on Windows Vista. Please don't miss this opportunity to get involved!

The Windows Difference

The Windows operating system is built to deliver reliability, security, and high performance. Windows offers the largest install base—2.5 PCs in the average household run Windows. In a recent nationwide survey, a Windows-based notebook was the second most-wanted gadget for the holidays.

As the digital lives of consumers become more diverse and sophisticated, the need for compatible, reliable devices is increasing. The Windows platform unlocks new technologies, allowing for partners to further innovate on the platform and move the industry forward. In particular, the latest platform—Windows Vista—has gained momentum in the PC market with 90% of Windows-based notebooks sold worldwide in the last year running Windows Vista Home Premium. To date, Microsoft has sold more than 100 million licenses for Windows Vista, making it one of the fastest-selling operating systems.

As Windows continues to evolve with hardware demands, building Windows-based devices allows you to maximize your impact and return on investment.

The Windows Logo Program

To help you profit from these trends and maximize the install base for your products, Microsoft has created the Windows Logo Program. The Windows Logo Program is designed to address the current and future market needs of customers using the Windows platform. This program emphasizes increasing the variety of hardware available, as well as enhancing the quality of the end-to-end experience for customers.

With tools, resources and guidance, the Windows Logo Program is designed to reduce development costs and improve time-to-market.

The Certified for Windows Vista logo and Works with Windows Vista logo help customers identify compatible products that are designed for ease-of-use, better performance, and enhanced security with Windows Vista.

Earning a Logo

Whichever certification you choose to pursue, you will need to keep logo program requirements in mind as you build and test your device. See individual logo requirements and guidance below.

Certified for Windows Vista

To be Certified for Windows Vista, your device must achieve the highest standards of compatibility, reliability, security, and performance. When reviewing Logo Program requirements, look for specifications designated as "premium."

Logo Program Requirements and Policies in LogoPoint

The most current Windows Logo Program requirements and policies for Windows Vista are available in the LogoPoint database through Windows Quality Online Services (Winqual). For security reasons, a VeriSign Digital ID is required to establish a Winqual account to access LogoPoint and submit a product for final certification.

Early Account Creation
It is recommended that you create a VeriSign Digital ID (fee required) and Winqual account early on in your development process. This proactive step gives you access to the most current Logo Program requirements and speeds up the process later, when you are ready to submit your product for certification. However, you can review a snapshot of these requirements, captured periodically and stored online at Windows Hardware Developer Central, without a Winqual account.
